Well, I am here. Writing again. I am almost embarrassed to say it has been years since I wrote anything outside of a video or photo caption. Former English professors are shaming me right now. My English Literature degree is definitely side eying me. But, I figured in my year of delusion/ intentional self-confidence and growth, why not work these rusty academic muscles into something to build a community?
If you don’t know who I am, hi, my name is Keisha and this is The Blerd Library. This is a space where I nerd out about all things speculative fiction from Black, Indigenous, and Authors and Artists of Color. I talk about it in all forms including novels, comics, novellas, short stories, and poetry. Also, much like a library, I am multifaceted. You may see nonfiction. You may see the occasional anecdote about my mediocre gardening, or my experience as a Black, queer, neurodivergent woman who has waaaay too many crafts.
Now, you may ask, “Damn, Keisha! You are all over these internets, talking about all things books and comics. What is so different about this space?” Honestly, it’s because it’s the most authentic way to communicate with me. I'm not saying that any other space I occupy on the internet is fake. I just know that written language has always been the easiest way for me to communicate. Verbal conversation takes an incredible amount of effort and it’s nice to have a place where I don’t have to work on presence and energy in addition to conveying my thoughts and opinions.
I plan to write one article a week on Thursday. For now, we’ll call it Thursdays Thoughts. This week, you’ll be getting two articles! ( shock and awe!) This is just an introduction to this substack. I hope you stay for the books, stay for the community, and engage with the unreal, the spectacular, the fantastical, and the horrific! See you in the stacks!
